Sketch & Sketch: Addicted to Music

September 2026
Theatrical absurd humor type sketch • Improvised stand-up monologue • LqUX Design Thinking
Genre: Stand-Up Comedy & Philosophical (con)seriousness humanistic sketch, slightly out of tune, yet humorous

While the audience is waiting for the artist to enter and start the sketch, background music plays: Metamorphosis by Eunike Tanzil

The actor / artist enters the stage and starts a monologue while browsing a dictionary.
An AD(d)ictionary thing, I think... Hm... A... Ad... Ah! Found it!

ADDICTED (adjective)

Etymology: From Latin addictus (bound, assigned, devoted, or enslaved to).
General Definition: Physically, mentally, or emotionally dependent on or compulsively devoted to a practice, substance, or stimulus.
Contextual Shades of Meaning:
  • 1. Compulsive / Toxic: Passive or unconscious surrender to destructive habits, environments, or pollutants (addicted to noxes).
  • 2. Sensory / Artistic: Deeply attuned to, emotionally sustained by, or passionately bound to a vital creative force (addicted to music as an elevation of consciousness).

As a former classical musician, highly sensitive to sounds, a chromesthete, I find myself in an unnatural quantum superposition... slightly out of tune.

Background music swells gently: Ella Fitzgerald, Desafinado

This is an ideal condition to wonder if an "addiction to music" actually exists. If yes, is it pathological or not? And if so, at what level of "attachment" does it become toxic?
I feel, so I know, so I think it is not. Why and how? Simply 'cause it is the most natural art form, closest to the natural nature of all universes, timelines, and dimensions. But I might be wrong. We never know... I am not a scientific expert in destructive, toxic attachments.
Given that some music is good for those who are depressed, I absurdly wonder...

The other day, while enjoying some music-sheltered from destructive, unpleasant sounds and other stimuli-I suddenly had this new sketch idea: Addicted to music: a new layer of consciousness...

I'll rewind the events a bit, back to the origins of some people's possible attachment to music at a "toxic" level. ;) I have no idea if this applies to chromesthetes, but... let's have fun.
A few days ago, while having a street conversation with a contemporary fellow from my human family, I was asked if I was addicted to toxic substances. I showed my 10-pack of tobacco. So, in reciprocity, I asked:
- "How about you? Are you addicted to environmentally toxic things?"
Firstly, asking me such a question, while secondly trying to lecture me on "nature's nature" while holding paper marketing flyers wrapped in plastic... is a bit out of tune. Really.

So, I had a kind of heartbreak that led to this new wonder. My contemporary fellow family members made me seriously doubt and reflect upon the possible state of "accronoxism".
A new word came into my mind in a matter of seconds, after asking myself: how do we name people addicted to pollution? Accro... noxes... Accronoxists! ...people addicted to pollution... Voilà! Eureka... Speaking to myself, I noted the word, wrote it down, and verified if it exists. No. It does not.

So, allow me to share with you this new word-a thing in dictionaries called a neologism, because it is "new" / neo:

[DICTIONARY ENTRY]

"ACCRONOXIE" (or ACRONOXIE), fem. noun

(Neologism; a compound of the French accro [addict/hooked] and the Latin noxa [harm/noxious agent])

  • Etymology:
    • Accro: (Colloquial French; apocope of the verb s'accrocher [to get hooked/attached]); denotes a state of physical, psychological, or behavioral dependence on a substance, habit, or practice.
    • Nox / Noxa: From the Latin noxa, -ae (fem., derived from nocere: to harm); signifies damage, wrong, injury, or nuisance; in toxicology and environmental medicine, it designates noxes (polluting, toxic, or harmful factors and substances).
  • Definition (Environmental & societal sense): The state of a human being or system that-by choice-refuses and/or rejects the shift toward a lifestyle that does not harm diversity and, consequently, the environment, the living, and the non-living; manifesting an active and persistent dependence on environmental and societal pollution (addicted to noxes).
  • Multisensory dimension (The Elements):
    • Primary elements: Pollution of Air, Water, Earth, and Fire.
    • Secondary elements: Noise (acoustic) pollution, visual (light) pollution, synthetic pollution (plastics, chemicals), and psychological pollution (received ideas, preconceptions, practices harmful to diversity and to others-both human and non-human-and a lack of empathy).

ACCRONOX (or ACRONOX), noun and adj. (Suffix -iste denoting the adherent or the person in this state)
Definition: A person who persists in ecological harm and the rejection of non-harmful practices, acting like someone "addicted to noxes."

ACCRONOXISM, masc. noun.
Definition: A system of thought, behavior, or societal state characterized by a widespread dependence on harmful agents and a refusal to evolve toward respect and love for the diversity of the living and the non-living.

Addicted to music Sketch visual

Philosophic thoughts & improvisation like an absurd, yet highest quality inner/outer monologue

The artist puts on earphones;
the audience listens along too for 1'50" duration, from the start, fading at 1'33", the music in background and earphones: Chick Corea, Desafinado, live version in Berlin, 2018

Given that I was a musician, I am "still"... but not an "Encore." (neither a stage recall, nor a piece engraved in the notation software Encore). A funny kind of quantum superposition-declaring oneself "addicted to music," don't you think?

Before ending this (con)seriousness humanist sketch, a tiny little wishful* asterisk (star)-'cause it is evening already, and Asterix sweats like Obelix:
Background music plays: Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd, Desafinado.

The artist continues the monologue, getting out if the pocket a small chocolate, begins to eat and, while is scrapping its head's hair like the humorist Lauren (from the couple L&H) says:

Thank you for reminding me every day that:
I feel. Yet.
I think. Yet.
I exist. Yet.
You? We?
Doxa of Noxa...

While the music is still playing, the artist leaves the stage saying:

And the rime(l) is ready :)
A new layer of consciousness...
Ta-da!
